A one day fast can rest the digestive system.

The process of digestion takes so much energy.  For our system to break down what we are eating so we can get the energy that we need can be quite a task internally.
I am not saying that this is a bad thing but juicing helps give you that energy you need instantly.

Here are a few juice fasting tips to get you started.

  • The day before your fast eat a light diet of fruit and vegetables.
  • On the day of your fast, eliminate all solid foods.
  • Drink fruit or vegetable juice (don’t mix them – our body uses different enzymes to digest them.)
  • Drink up to 4 liters (about 7-8 pints) of juice a day and try to “chew” it rather than simply gulp it, this will aid in the digestion process.
  • A gentle practice that consists of various yoga poses can help speed up the detoxification process.

Fasting is an excellent time to devote to concentration and meditation as the mind may feel sharper and more acute than normal.
During a fast, toxins and impurities are released from the body through all the organs of elimination, including the skin.  For this reason, you should wash regularly to keep the skin fresh and clean.  Do the loofa thing to help remove dead skin cells and stimulate the circulation and the nervous system.
You may even experience skin eruptions as the body goes through its internal cleaning process.

Arthritis involves the breakdown of cartilage. Cartilage normally protects a joint, allowing it to move smoothly. Without the normal amount of cartilage, the bones rub together, causing pain, swelling (inflammation) and stiffness.

Supermarkets often have to import produce from other parts of the world which means it is probably refrigerated for a long period of time.  As much as you can SHOP LOCAL!

2) Avoid foods that have been tampered with in order to preserve them.
It is thankfully getting easier and easier to get organic foods because of the increase in organic farming methods.
3) Avoid processed food, white flour and sugar.

4) Avoid foods that contain coloring, added sugar or salt and

5) Be sure to check the food labels before you buy.  If you are unable to pronounce half the things on the label than that is a good clue that it has been majorly tampered with.

Why is the tomato so good for you?
It contains concentrated amounts of licopene which is so good for the pancreas, liver, kidneys, spleen, adrenal glands, skin, eyes and also fights the onslaught of cancer.

They are very high in Vitamin C and Vitamin A.

It really is interesting how the benefits change if the tomato is cooked or if it is raw.
For example, cooked tomatoes have a high amount of oxalic acid, which acidifies the blood which in turn draws minerals from your teeth, bones and your tissues.
So in this way the cooked tomato is NO GOOD for you!
The raw tomato is incredibly alkaline.  So interesting, right?

3) You might be bringing in extra air, for example you chew gum all the time and you are bringing in extra air bubbles.

5) You also might be eating artificial type things that your system does not know how to deal with and can’t break them down.

HOW DO WE SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS?

How much time do you spend during the day thinking about what you are going to eat?

I like to set an intention on the days I juice fast.  Just as I do when I am in my yoga practice.  Bring yourself into the moment and really feel the present.
Use it as a way change your normal day-to-day thought life.
Juice fasting will get you thinking differently about your life, your body, about who you are and the relationship you have with food.

During my research and studies I have found what is the most nutritious thing I could possibly eat or juice.
THE ANSWER:
The sprout.
There are a multiple variety of sprouts..some of the most common are alfalfa (the least expensive, but also the most beneficial!), broccoli sprouts and clover sprouts bur there are also the less common like sunflower, buckwheat, pea and fennegreek sprouts.
Some of these need to be grown in dirt and some of these can be just grown in water.
The water ones are so great because you can grow them anywhere.  Like I do in a jar in my cupboard.
ANOTHER QUESTION:
Just how much more nutritious are these little miracles foods in comparison to other fruits and veggies?
THE ANSWER:
They are about 500 TIMES more powerful than their counterparts that are non sprouted.

Like we were earlier discussing the least expensive and one of the most nutritious the alfalfa sprout in particular has something called, Spinosterol.  This stimulates the immune systems and activates the T-cells that fight free radicals and cancer.
So if you are trying to strengthen your immune system than adding sprouts is a number one priority.

IMPORTANT QUESTION:
What if you are a vegetarian wondering how you are going to get your protein?
THE ANSWER:
Sprouts are deceptively high in protein, they are 40%.  Amazing right?!

But when you are juicing you don’t get much juice out of them so it is extremely important to wrap them in a big leafy green like swiss chard or collard or even romaine leafs; which are incredibly easy to access.
